Our Vision: At Diseworth C of E Primary School, we believe every child is unique and valued. Guided by our Christian values and our school motto, “Let your light shine, spread your wings and fly,” we aim to help every child flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
What is SEND? SEND stands for special educational needs and/or disabilities. Children may need extra support in areas such as learning, communication, social and emotional development, or physical and sensory needs.
How we support your child: - High-quality inclusive teaching tailored to each child’s stage of learning (we are a stage not age school) - Adapted activities, resources and learning strategies - Small group or one-to-one support where needed - Specialist programs and equipment if required - Flexi-schooling options to support children and families when appropriate
Curriculum and environment: We adapt our curriculum and classroom environment so every child can access learning successfully, including assistive technology, visual supports, sensory areas, and flexible seating.
Monitoring progress: - Regular assessment and reviews - Individual support plans with input from parents and pupils - Provision adjusted to meet changing needs
Emotional and social support: We provide a nurturing, values-led environment where children feel safe and supported. We promote positive relationships and encourage pupils to help each other. We have a clear and proactive approach to preventing and addressing bullying.
Parent and pupil involvement: - Open communication with class teachers and the SENCo - Regular review meetings - Opportunities for pupils to share their views and be part of decisions about their learning
Staff expertise: Our SENCo and staff receive ongoing training in inclusive teaching, autism, ADHD, speech and language support, and emotional wellbeing.
Transitions: We carefully support children through transitions between stages and year groups, with additional visits, visual supports, and close liaison with families.
