Class 4 (Aquilas) Years 5 & 6

Welcome to our Class Page.

(The Aquilas!)

Welcome back and I hope everyone had a fantastic summer and is ready for the school year ahead.

The year 5’s and 6’s have settled back into school life really well. We are looking forward to getting stuck into our topic for this term... Conflict through time. As Historians, we will be exploring and looking for evidence which proves that there was conflict in each time period. We will begin in the Stone Age and travel right up to the present day. We will also explore how conflict is caused and how this changes over time. Here are some pictures of us hard at work...

The Bayeux Tapestry provided us with a great deal of evidence that there was conflict. We spent lots of time analysing and trying to interpret this magnificent artefact; it was a lot harder than it looks.
At the beginning of the Autumn term, whilst the weather was still bright and sunny, we made the most of it by spending time outside practising our throwing and catching skills by playing several games of rounders.
The Aquila class spent lots of time working together with the year 1's and 2's to help them with their literacy and ICT skills. The afternoon was a great success and was enjoyed by all.
In Maths, we have been working really hard on improving our times tables knowledge and using this to help us with our factors. Here is us hard at work completing a sorting activity we have been set. We quickly notice that many multiples of numbers have lots in common.
In Science this term, we have been working on 'Forces and Motion'. As part of this science topic, we measured the gravitational pull of different objects which lead us to investigate whether or not the gravitational pull of an object is affected if it is immersed in water.
We have been very busy in the Aquila Class making Christmas crafts to sell at our Christmas Shopping evening. We hope that our hard work will pay off to help us to raise money for our new library area.
We had a great last few days in the Aquila Class before Christmas. We earnt coloured, silver and gold stars throughout the term by putting in lots of effort and showing perseverance. Because we all earnt our stars, we were treated to an afternoon of hot chocolate, smores and a film. Miss Daniel also treated us to making a sock penguin to take home; they are extremely cute!
